SALAMANDER – THEATRE COMPANY
“Salamander” theatre company was founded in 2005 by the director and playwright Marco Ghelardi together with Simona Schito.
Salamander is an acting company whose aim is the artistic research and the development of contemporary theatrical forms in order to effectively narrate engaging stories.
Our activity consists of three different stages:
• Theatre seasons and festivals. Here the festival “Shakespeare in Town!” stands out. It was founded in 2005 and it is dedicated to the divulgation of the Shakespearean classic as a metaphor of the theatre in general. Each festival overwhelms with joy the city of Savona through events and surprises, ending with a performance of the play that year’s gathering is dedicated to. Salamander’s history includes the foundation and the organization of other theatre schedules like the international theatre festival “Frontiera” of Borgio Berezzi, the festival “TeatRanzi”, the theatre’s season “Vociteatromusica” of the Teatro di Valleggia and other initiatives.
• Performance of texts: either classical or contemporary texts, some of them written by Marco Ghelardi, some others by different authors. What they all have in common is the will to focus on the story and the immediacy of the engagement. In this field, Salamander presented the national premiere of “Dealer’s choice” by Patrick Marber in cooperation with the Teatro Stabile in Genoa, “Turno di notte” (Night Shift) by Marco Ghelardi presented at the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa and “La scelta” (The choice”), work commissioned by UWIN UniCredit Group which has been performed several times in the most prestigious theatres of Italy such as Teatro Piccolo in Milan, Teatro Politeama in Palermo and Teatro D’Annunzio in Pescara.
• Education: Salamander works in the field of education both for adults and teens in collaboration with educational institutes. The aim is to be present also outside the stage for the diffusion of esthetic values and the creation of a particular audience. For years Salamander has realized projects that use the Shakespearean texts to spread a different perception of the art of theatre.
